HAPPY NEW YEAR
My new website is now up (www.edwardkinsellaillustration.com). There you will find all of the latest updates to my illustration portfolio and sketchbook as well as a new blog for news. Instead of deleting this blog, I've decided to use it as a more informal place where I can post pictures, sketches, and things that inspire me. I guess it will be kind of like a visual diary. I hope it will be as enjoyable to look at as it will be to work on.
This past summer my girlfriend and I had an amazing trip to Paris. My time there was filled with tons of inspiring experiences many of which I would like to share on this blog.
The first thing in Paris that blew me away was the apartment we rented. It was on Rue St. Honore, a couple blocks away from the Louvre. Not only was the location perfect, but the architecture and scenery were extremely beautiful. Our building was built in the 1700s and is depicted in paintings done by Camille Pissaro! He painted them from the winter of 1897 to spring of 1898, just down the street while staying at the Hotel du Louvre.
I couldn't believe that one of my favorite painters had worked right where I was. For me, the feeling of being able to see what he saw and be inspired by the same scenery blew my mind. When I got home I searched for more of this 15 painting series online and found one which has not only the building I stayed in, but also included some of the buildings I drew as well. Here are a couple paintings from his series as well as my drawings/pictures of the same buildings. Hope you enjoy.
